A woman awakens in a hospital room, injured and surrounded by strangers. The car accident is a blur, and her mind is nearly a blank slate.
The name on her driver’s license reads Elizabeth Becket, and she’s enrolled at a local college, but none of this feels right. Her college application claims she’s a writer—are her vivid and frequent nightmares a story conjured up in her imagination or could they be memories of her former life?
The only thing she knows for sure is that an urgent sense of danger casts a shadow over her entire existence.
Irresistibly drawn to Fitz Darcy, the man living next door to her new apartment, her soul longs to trust him. Is he safe to love, or is he part of the frightening events her subconscious is fighting so hard to keep buried?
A contemporary mystery romance with a clever nod to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
No graphic love scenes.
Safekeeping Romance Mystery and Suspense with a Dash of Austen edition by Wendi Sotis Romance eBooks
Safekeeping is a fun romp filled with mystery, secret agents, and a psychic. Its author has penned several excellent Pride and Prejudice variations. I wouldn't really call this one a P&P variation, though. The characters use those names, but the plot doesn't remotely qualify. However, it does contain a nod and a wink to the JAFF community because Lizzy (who suffers amnesia at the book's beginning and gradually recovers her memory over the course of the story) turns out to have a hobby as a JAFF writer. The AustenAuthors web site, where a lot of fan fiction really is posted and commented on, also has a significant role. As an avid fan of JAFF for several years, I understood the references, but I'm not certain whether a reader outside the JAFF world would really "get" that aspect of the story.
The writing is sound, and the plot works. While there's a certain amount of suspense and lurking danger, I'd say the tone is generally pretty light. I found it interesting the way the author employs Lizzy's dreams and trance-like episodes that return pieces of her memory as a way to flash back and reveal the backstory leading up to her present circumstances.
I don't think this measures up to the quality of other books I've read by Ms. Sotis and I don't think this is a great read for people who are really into top books in the mystery genre, but I enjoyed it and was glad I bought it.

Safekeeping Romance Mystery and Suspense with a Dash of Austen edition by Wendi Sotis Romance eBooks Reviews
I really liked the twist in this version of P&P.
I thought I had made a mistake in the beginning, because the character names are different....initially. The way Darcy and Lizzy end up named Darcy and Lizzy is cleverly done.
Their back stories all though not clearly defined was not particularly necessary. Perhaps a second in the series could focus on that, just good for thought.
This is the second book of Ms. Sotis' that I have read in the past few days and I find myself wishing I had not read her earlier works so they would be new to me now. The quality of her writing and editing can always be relied upon and her method of transition (in terms of writing not font changes) between regained memories and current events is as smooth as silk and maintains the pace of the story.
What a adventure Wendi takes us on in this book!! Loved it and couldn't wait for each chapter to unfold. Will Lizzy remember it all or will she be lost in the vague land of questions and doubts. Are these people around her really who they say they are...or could they be part of a past she is trying to reconnect with? Why does it have to be so hard and why does she feel like there is danger all around her? If you love fast moving mystery with a modern Darcy and Lizzy...grab hold and hang on. Thanks Wendi it has been a wonderful trip.
I love this author's work, so I was intrigued by the storyline since she has a penchant for thinking outside the box. This storyline certainly was different, but I feel the end result felt flat. She could have benefited with fleshing this out a little more which surprises me because her books are usually rather long.
This story being short resulted in everything feeling rushed. I didn't even find myself loving this "Darcy" because I barely got to know him!
Overall it was entertaining but I wish it had been longer so I could appreciate what she was trying to convey more.
I usually love Wendi Sotis books. I've read and re-read them all. Even in the modern adaptations there was some pride and some prejudice. In this book, there was none. The character names were kind of same, but that's it.
It was well-written and the story unfolded nicely, but I guess if I read a book where names like Lizzy, Darcy, Jane, and Charlotte are used I want some of the Jane Austen story buried in there, too.
This is a long book, but the author did a good job of keeping it paced and maintaining interest. It is a modern era Darcy-Elizabeth with corporate spying and intrigue. It uses the amnesia plot device effectively. I recommend it and believe that you will enjoy the story.
Though a mega Jane Austin fan, I haven’t read a lot of fan fiction. I mean, what can you add and where else can you go with such a classic masterpiece as Pride and Prejudice? Well, wonder no more! In her novel Safekeeping, Wendi Sotis has skillfully woven mystery, crime solving, and a super sweet and sexy love story between Lizzy and Fitz into a contemporary version of Jane Austen’s world. I couldn’t put it down, and read it cover to cover in one sitting. When I closed my , I had only one thought. I want more! Can’t wait to read whatever magic Sotis will spin next in Austen’s world.
